Ramiro Sicre was born on May 7, 1958 in Havana, Cuba. Once arriving in Florida with his parents, Rogelio and Marina Vega Sicre and his brother, Roger in 1966, the family settled in Hialeah. Ramiro attended North Hialeah Elementary, Hialeah Middle School and Hialeah High School. Ramiro grew up on East 46th Street in Hialeah and today lives in the house right next door to his family home.
While attending Hialeah Middle School, he started playing tackle football with Hialeah Optimist Club. There he met his future wife, Jan, who was a cheerleader. Playing optimist football and attending Hialeah High School provided both Ramiro and Jan with such great memories. After graduating from high school he started volunteering his time with the Optimist Club by coaching football. He later was elected president of the Optimist Club where he received a distinguished president honor from Optimist International. In 1996 he was awarded with the Key to the City of Hialeah for his outstanding work with the youth in the community.
Ramiro married his school sweetheart Jan Eggleston in July, 1978. He started working for City Gas Co. and continued his employment with them for 30 years. Ramiro and Jan have three wonderful children, Jennifer who is a teacher at North Hialeah Elementary, Eric who is a police officer for the City of Hollywood and Marc who is attending Miami Dade College with the goal of becoming a firefighter. Ramiro and Jan have two gorgeous granddaughters, Jisette and Jenise.
One of Ramiro’s proudest moments was in 2004 where he was a football coach at Hialeah High and his son Eric was playing and beat American High School to win the District title. The last time Hialeah High had won the title was back in 1981. His son Eric went on to play college football at Averett University in Virginia. His son Marc has been actively involved with the city of Hialeah’s fire cadets where he volunteered many hours at fire station #2. His daughter Jennifer is one the most respected teachers at North Hialeah elementary where she teaches the gifted students.
Currently, Ramiro sits on the planning and zoning board for the city of Hialeah. He is also Chair Elect of the Hialeah Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Ramiro and Jan love to go to Disney World and enjoy camping, riding their bikes and just hanging out in the backyard.
