Economic Development
City government in Hialeah must be part of the solution to generate economic development to create new and better jobs for our citizens. We must work to help existing businesses in the city to grow and add new jobs. Our Mayor and Council must also work with neighboring cities to attract new businesses and create new jobs, improving our revenue base and quality of life for our citizens by shortening commutes and cultivating healthy business environment. An example of working with our neighbors would be to help develop the businesses at the Opa Locka Airport. There are many aviation companies and the support firms that we could get to relocate to Opa Locka and generate new jobs that our citizens from Hialeah can perform. These high paying jobs would be jobs our skilled workforce in Hialeah can be hired, trained, and be proud to be associated with.
There are many new technology companies coming to Florida to take advantage of Florida’s favorable business climate. Industries include aerospace, bio tech, medical services, alternative energy, and customer service related companies. Our diverse work force only needs the opportunity to show their skills to help make these new companies successful.
Honoring Our Past
Hialeah has a storied and colorful past that needs to be recognized and honored. Many families and businesses have been operating here for twenty or more years. Many are small family owned businesses that have been passed down for three generations. I want us to give these businesses the recognition they have earned by being good employers, good neighbors, and good contributing members of our community. We should never forget the people who have invested in our city by employing our neighbors, providing payroll and benefits, and paid taxes that have supported our town so it can provide the essential services like fire, police, and parks/recreation for all our citizens.
These neighbors and their facilities are the jewels of our city. The Hialeah race track, our downtown area, the historic churches, and our wonderful parks system must be maintained and supported by the City Council. I pledge to be a champion of these jewels in our community.
Public Safety
This is the essential responsibility of the city. Response time for fire and emergency medical responders must continue to get better. Our police force must be equipped with the latest technology to fight crime and keep our streets safe. I want our seniors to feel safe in their homes. They have earned the right to grow old with dignity. My vision for Hialeah is our streets are a place where families can sit on their front porch and watch their children play in the yard or at the park without the fear of danger of someone breaking into their home, stealing their car, or hurting their children and grandchildren.
Our city is a great place to live. We have to make it a place where our young people, your children and my children want to live and work. Too many citizens of Hialeah move away after they graduate from school to other places in Miami or Broward County. I want Hialeah to be a place they want to become a part of our great community and help us carry on our great past with an even better and brighter future.
I also am a champion of our public employees. We have so many great policeman, fireman, and city staff. We need to thank them for their service. Many of them could move away and receive higher pay and benefits in other cities in the area. Most choose to stay here because they are proud to work for us in Hialeah. They deserve our respect and thanks for a job well done. I want to work with them to achieve improved relations and ensure there is a fair balance in their pay/benefits and the city’s budget constraints.
Seniors
We have many seniors in our city. We must ensure they are cared for and have the opportunity to be safe and lead active lives in their retirement years. I want to establish programs where seniors can be actively involved in our schools, our parks and recreation programs. They are the great role models for our children and have much to offer as examples for our younger generations.
Our city provides many services to our seniors and I will support continuing these services and providing seniors the opportunity to become more involved in the workings of our community. I know our hospitals, schools, and recreation programs need volunteers to help increase the level of service they provide. As a City Councilman I will work to establish new programs to give our seniors the chance to become more involved with these organizations.
